Welcome to Moorsom Consulting Group LLC (MCG), the premier, independent tonnage consulting firm with personnel in major ports nationwide. We specialize in implementing tonnage reduction techniques to meet USCG parameters while adhering to a vessel owner’s budget and operational needs.

For U.S. flag vessels, if a certain tonnage threshold is exceeded, owners can be forced to satisfy significant, expensive, regulatory requirements. MCG’s accomplished specialists provide technical counsel to architects, shipyards and vessel owners to determine the best tonnage reduction solutions.

MCG was founded by Phil Essex, a tonnage specialist with three decades of experience working directly with the USCG personnel in Washington, D.C. Our staff includes former Panama Canal and USCG admeasurers, each with an average of 30+ years of experience in the field. We can liaise with any of the delegated admeasurement agencies to insure that your project proceeds seamlessly, quickly and cost-effectively from design through construction.
